The Jock Stein CSC (JSCSC) in Melbourne was formed around 1995 with the purpose of bringing together Celtic fans in the state of Victoria, with the ultimate intention of spreading the word for a football club we all love.
The club was formed at a meeting at The Tudor Inn, Cheltenham between the founding committee Sean Fitzgerald, Stephen McKay and Billy McLaughlin, and along with JSCSC stalwarts Steven Fallens and Tony Gibson they wanted to create a focal point for local Celtic supporters as well as ex-pats and their families to meet and socialise together with fellow Celtic fans.
Since that time the JSCSC have found bases throughout the city, beginning at Old Scotch Waverley, (more recently known as Waverley City and now Eastern Lions). In later years, the JSCSC moved to South Oakleigh Bowls Club, Yarra Yarra Golf Club (before it burnt to the ground), The Lucky Leprechaun pub in Elsternwick (which wasn’t so lucky as it went into receivership and closed) before finding a base at Father Flanagan’s Hotel (now named The Gasometer Hotel) in the suburb of Collingwood for many years through Celtic’s Seville and Martin O’Neill era.
In more recent times the JSCSC has found a home at the Pint On Punt hotel in Windsor, and have spent many happy years there, meeting for Celtic matches and hosting club functions.
The current committee that attempt to drive the JSCSC forward are:
- Sean Fitzgerald
- Mark Burns
- Colin Turnbull
- Paul Nelson
